Public Cooling House

“Punctum’s Public Cooling House is part art house/part bath house. It takes some of the big questions surrounding our ‘water future’ and turns them into an experience of reflection in an altered time flow. A uniquely dry-country approach to a chillout, it provides a public gathering place to beat the heat in our increasingly hot and dry times.” - Jude Anderson

Public Cooling House is a project conceived and directed by Jude Anderson of Punctum Inc.  As designer and construction coordinator I was engaged to deliver the design of a temporary structure.  Evaporative cooling techniques where employed in the design, drawing inspiration from the ‘Coolgardie Safe.’

Public Cooling House has been presented in collaboration with Castlemaine Botanical Gardens, Artlands (Bendigo) - Regional Arts Australia, Royal Botanical Gardens Melbourne and Cranbourne, WOMADelaide, Bunjil Place and Bayside City Council.  The project received a 2019 Green Room Award nomination for Innovation in Curatorial Contribution & Programming.

Details of future events for Public Cooling House can be found on the Punctum Inc website.
