Legana Primary School

The Legana Primary School facade installations are a public artwork commissioned by the Tasmanian Government Art Site Scheme. The facade installations draw inspiration from the flora and fauna of the local Tamar wetlands.

Through a series of five tableaux, pedestrians are guided towards the main entry points of the school. Each tableau depicts iconic and rare migratory species of the Tamar wetlands. The designs reference local flora including the reeds that dominate the wetland landscape and the copses of paperbarks that erupt from the horizon. Narratives within the work explore the interplay between local species and their habitat so that a more complex relationship of interconnectedness is inferred. The familiarity of local wildlife and habitat depicted in the installations help foster a sense of place and connection.
